Remembering our Algerian campaigner Rachid Dahmani

(10 January 2011) – The International Campaign to Ban Landmines and the Cluster Munition Coalition are devastated by the loss of our dear colleague and friend Rachid Dahmani from Handicap International in Algeria.A compassionate and dedicated campaigner, Rachid promoted the rights of landmine and cluster munition survivors and other persons with disabilities in Algeria, and passed on advocacy knowledge to new activists. As a member of the Cluster Munition Coalition and the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, he joined forces with colleagues from the Middle East and North Africa at international meetings to encourage governments to adhere to and implement the Mine Ban Treaty and the Convention on Cluster Munitions. We will sorely miss his enthusiasm, as well as his kind and generous spirit. We express our sincere condolences to Rachid's family and to our colleagues and friends at Handicap International and at the Association of Solidarity for the Handicapped and Mine Victims.Campaign members who wish to send condolences to Rachid's family are invited to do so by writing to info@cmcicbl.org.
