States engaged in discussions on the progress that has been made to implement the Convention, and the challenges that remain. States shared news on progress to ratify or accede to the Convention, and efforts being undertaken to promote it to countries that have not yet joined. There was also an update on the preparations for the Second Meeting of States Parties (2MSP) that will take place in Beirut, Lebanon from 12-16 September 2011.The CMC was actively involved in the meetings, delivering statements and calling on governments to report on concrete steps they have taken under the Vientiane Action Plan.
